 President Welcome Letter

Message from the
2008-2009 NM Association of
Legal Administrators Chapter President:
Gale Johnson, Butt, Thornton & Baehr, PC

Welcome to the New Mexico Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators’ (ALA) website. As Chapter President for the 2008-2009 term, I would like to introduce our Board: President-elect, Terri Esquibel from Sheehan, Sheehan & Stelzner, PA; Secretary, Carol Cnare from Lewis & Roca, LLP; Treasurer, Chandra Manning from Miller Stratvert, PA; and Program Coordinator, Joni Stotts from the Nordhaus Law Firm.

Our Association is comprised of a wonderful group of professionals who work well as a team, and have a strong commitment to the legal profession.  Currently we have 25 members who represent firms ranging in size from less than five attorneys to over seventy-five attorneys and have combined experience of 150+ years.  As a member of the Chapter, I have found the support and educational opportunities given by the ALA and my colleagues invaluable.

The Board has made a commitment to the Chapter to continue to provide informative, educational and interesting programs.  We encourage our members to attend the educational seminars offered by the National and Regional ALA, the Chapter Leadership Institute for Board Members, as well as to actively participate in Chapter monthly meetings and serve on our various committees.  Obviously, we would not do this without the sustained commitment from our members, our firms' managing partners, and of course, our partnership with our vendors.

Our meetings are held at noon on the 3rd Thursday of every month.  I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to attend a meeting as our guest.  If you are interested, you can reach me by email  or by phone 872-7443.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for visiting our website.  We welcome you to contact us if you are interested in joining our Chapter or would simply like more information.

3.  Providing a professional network in New Mexico and interacting with the regional, national, and international Association of Legal Administrators.

 Our Chapter

The New Mexico Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators  (NMALA) was chartered in 1980.  The Chapter membership includes legal management professionals specializing in every aspect of law firm administration.  Being a member of NMALA provides you with an opportunity to network with professional colleagues who have an ongoing interest in increasing their knowledge and success.  The chapter offers educational opportunities through monthly chapter meetings, teleseminars, and regional and national conferences as well as from the online resources available through the international association.  NMALA conducts an annual Salary and Benefits Survey in partnership with a local accounting firm that is of great value to its members and their firms.  NMALA members also give back to the community in which they work by participating each fall in the annual ALA Community Challenge.  If  you are involved in law firm administration and want to learn more about ALA and NMALA, please contact our Chapter's President-elect, Terri Esquibel.
